PHI – As the nation’s leading authority on the direct care workforce, PHI promotes quality direct care jobs as the foundation for quality care. PHI has been proud to partner with Wisconsin to advance portable and stackable credentials for direct care workers. PHI provides policy support, research and evaluation, and assistance in developing core competencies and training standards, seeking to advance a universal training and credentialing system for direct care workers, to strengthen workforce recruitment and retention, create advancement opportunities, and improve care for older adults and people with disabilities in Wisconsin
UW MKE – The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee serves as the external evaluator for the Certified Direct Care Professional (CDCP) program. They provide technical expertise to the program to ensure constant quality improvement. Their team includes faculty with program evaluation expertise, as well as staff and students in the School of Rehabilitation Science and Technology.
HOSA – Future Health Professionals also known as HOSA recognizes the vital role of the CDCP program in strengthening the direct care workforce and works to create awareness about the CDCP program. Through this partnership, we have presented at HOSA conferences to demonstrate the benefits of the CDCP program to high school students and teachers. HOSA has helped young people by equipping them with the skills and opportunities needed to make a meaningful impact in their communities.
Goodwill – Goodwill offers “wrap-around” services for potential CDCPs, through its career training program, also known as career EXCELerate. Anyone interested in becoming a CDCP now has access to additional resources to help them overcome challenges and successfully complete the program and launch into their chosen career in healthcare. Free personalized support from Goodwill North Central’s team will help eliminate barriers to complete’ one’s education, finding a job, sustaining employment, and experience improved financial stability. The personalized plan helps keep the individual motivated and on track, provide regular check-ins, as well as provide resume review preparation, and skills teaching for a rewarding, long-term healthcare career.
Healthcare Workforce Training Institute – The Institute aims to increase the number of quality healthcare workers by taking an active, hands-on approach to help train and advance the next generation of caregivers. DHS has a contract with the Institute to create a bridge or ladder from the Certified Direct Care Professional (CDCP) to the Certified Nurse Aide (CNA). Thanks to the wealth knowledge learned during the CDCP program, CDCP-to-CNA Career Ladder Course participants are permitted to miss the first 20 hours of the state required 75-hour nurse aide course, which is the equivalent of 3-day sessions or 4 evenings session of the class offered by the Healthcare Workforce Training Institute. The Wisconsin Regional Career Pathways (RCP) approach is a statewide effort to deliver high-quality career pathways in high schools that reflect the needs and vision of a regional collaborative group of employers, education, and economic and workforce development. Certified Direct Care Professional (CDCP) is now listed on the Direct Patient Care Career Pathway. The CDCP program is assisting students in earning a credential that supports their future goal plans, while also addressing talent pipeline needs for the healthcare industry. Schools that offer this industry recognized credential are not only providing a great learning experience for their students, but they are also using the funding associated with the program to grow other healthcare pathway supports at their school. It’s a win/win for everyone…. students, schools, and healthcare employers!
